I started apprenticing for my dad, Jin An Cao, when I was sixteen-years-old, but even before that I watched him work all the time. My dad established our company in 1995, starting our violin making adventure. In 2008, I went to the Violin Making School of America in Utah to continue studying the fine art of making and restoring violins and cellos. I studied how to play violin under Ji Zhe, Principal First Violin of Henan Symphony, and after I moved to America I kept up my playing studies with Rosalie MacMillan, a VMSA violin teacher. Because I am a player, I understand what a player wants and I always keep this in mind when making violins. I know how to craft and improve a violin to a player’s wishes and standards. This is why I won the Certificate of Tone Award from Violin Society of America during their 2018 International Competition.
